Are you planning to work or study abroad? If so, you may need to undergo a medical examination as part of your visa application. Vaccinatiecentrum.nl receives requests for many different types of medical examinations, such as an examination for an internship at a hospital in Suriname or Curaçao, an exchange program at a college in the United States, or a master’s program in Japan or China. No matter where you’re going or what you’ll be doing there, Vaccinatiecentrum.nl is ISO 9001:2015 certified to perform the medical examination you need.
When do you need a medical examination?
Sometimes you need a medical examination if you want to work, study, or do an internship abroad. Many countries have health requirements and expect you to demonstrate that you meet these requirements as part of your visa application. Your employer may also require a medical examination if you are being sent to another country.
Whether an examination is required and what it should entail varies by situation. At vaccinatiecentrum.nl, there are two options: a standard “fit to travel/fit to work” examination or a customized examination. The customized examination is most suitable if you have received a form from your employer or organization. In that case, we’ll conduct the “fit to travel/fit to work” examination, supplemented with the tests required by the form.

Fit to travel / Work inspection
Cost: € 137,50
The fit to travel/fit to work examination consists of a physical exam and a detailed questionnaire to be completed in advance. The questionnaire asks whether you have (or have had) certain illnesses, are taking any medications, or have undergone any treatments. It also asks whether you plan to engage in certain activities (such as scuba diving or mountain climbing) and whether you are pregnant. Are there any issues not covered in the questionnaire that you’d like to discuss? There’s time for that during the examination as well.
After you’ve completed the questionnaire, we’ll review your current vaccination status and verify that you’ve received the appropriate vaccinations for your destination. If necessary, you can get any missing vaccinations at vaccinatiecentrum.nl. This will incur additional costs. Finally, we’ll conduct a physical examination. During this examination, various measurements and checks will be performed, including:
- Calculating your BMI
- Measuring your blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen saturation, and temperature
- Checking for any visible physical abnormalities
- Urinalysis

This examination consists of the “fit to travel”/“fit to work” assessment, supplemented by any tests required by your employer or organization. Have you received a form from your employer or organization that needs to be filled out? Please email this form to info@vaccinatiecentrum.nl so we can determine whether we can perform the examination.
Assessing your medical examination needs is a precise and time-consuming process. You’ll receive a Tikkie from us for €29.95 before we begin working on your form. Once you’ve paid, the nurse, in consultation with our doctor, will determine which tests need to be performed. You’ll then receive a quote for your customized medical examination.
The €29.95 fee will be deducted from the total cost of the medical exam at your first appointment. If, after review, it turns out that we cannot perform the medical exam, the €29.95 fee will, of course, be refunded to you.
The following tests, among others, can be performed through vaccinatiecentrum.nl:
- Various blood, stool, and urine tests
- Physical examination (including auscultation of the heart and lungs)
- Chest X-ray
- ECG (electrocardiogram)
There are some tests we cannot perform at our own location, such as a chest X-ray, ECG, and certain blood, stool, and urine tests. For these, we will provide you with a referral so you can have the test performed at a hospital and/or testing site near our location or your home. The nurse will let you know in advance which tests are involved and will discuss the options with you.
Which locations can you visit?
For medical examinations, you can visit our locations in Wageningen, Nijmegen, Den Bosch, Utrecht and Eindhoven. If you need a test for a customized medical examination that cannot be performed at our location, we’ll provide you with a referral to have the test done at a hospital and/or blood draw center near our location or your home.

The “fit to travel/fit to work” examination costs €137.50. The customized examination starts at €29.95 for the assessment by vaccinatiecentrum.nl. After this assessment, you’ll receive a quote for your examination, in which the cost of the assessment will be deducted if you have the examination performed at vaccinatiecentrum.nl.
The “fit to travel” or “fit to work” examination takes about half an hour. If you need additional tests, travel advice, or referrals, the examination will take longer.
The duration of the customized examination depends on the tests included in the examination. We’ll send you a quote for the customized examination in advance.
We can often schedule an appointment for you quickly. Do you need to be examined on short notice? In that case, it’s best to give us a call to discuss your options.
Yes, that’s possible, we have the necessary vaccines in stock. The travel consultation is included in the cost of the medical exam. You’ll only pay for the vaccinations you receive.
Do you need multiple vaccinations as part of a vaccination series? If so, you may need follow-up appointments before your departure. This can be discussed with the nurse during the consultation. For these appointments, you’ll pay the standard fee for a follow-up consultation.
Since there must be a gap of several days or weeks between some vaccinations, we recommend that you contact us well in advance of your departure.
